Similar to the eTest that was introduced in the other four regional offices,Thimphu regional office also started the electronic test for the theory test. From the 50 candidates, three candidates failed to get the minimum marks in the theory test.
What is theory test?
Prior to qualifying for the actual practical test, the candidates must pass the theory test which checks the competency of the candidates knowledge on the road traffic signs and rules. The questions are generated randomly from the questions banks and is allotted 30 minutes to answer the objective type questions based on traffic signage and traffic rules. Candidates are required to attempt all 20 questions which carries two marks each.
The Director General ,RSTA informed that while it is difficult to get registration for driving test, RSTA wants to ensure that all drivers are well aware of the road rules. However RSTA will soon be starting driving test on weekends to provide opportunity for everyone wishing to get the driving license. DG also shared his concern that as perceived by the public, RSTA aim is not to generate revenue by imposing penalties on the drivers, instead RSTA would like to see decrease in the traffic offence.
To this, RSTA will be even more strict on the issuance of driving license to make the roads safe, for everyone.
Why electronic test?
The eTest is a part of the less paper initiative, expected to reduce the usage of paper which was earlier done in a printed set of questions. Besides, the eTest will also speed up the written test process, since the results will be evaluated instantly by the computer system and reduce favoritism and nepotism as speculated by general public .However for the illiterate like in the past, RSTA officials will assist them to explain the questions which will be also recorded and evaluated by the same system.
