Eligibility:
The applicants must have a Learner License for a period of at least six
months and must be at least 18 years old at the time of applying.
(Or applicants have valid international/foreign driving license (written in English). (Regulation 57)
Validity :
A driving license is valid for 5 years from the date of issue and must be
renewed after its validity expires (Regulation 56).
How to apply for Driving License (Regulation 57):

Applicants must bring the following documents to the nearest RSTA Regional
Office on applying for driving license.

Original copy of Learner License.

Two passport size photographs (in proper National Dress for Bhutanese Nationals)

First, applicants must sit for driving test. In order to sit for driving test,
go to the license section and ask for driving test with the original copy of your
learner license. The applicant will be asked to pay the fee for driving test at the cash counter.

With the money receipt, the driving test will be conducted. The driving test consists
of both practical and written/oral set by the authority. 30 marks out of 60 for
practical test and 20 marks out of 40 for oral/written test are required in order to pass the test.

If the applicants pass the driving test, the applicant obtains and fills in
the application form and submits two passport size photographs to the license
section along with a photocopy of citizenship ID card. The applicant is requested
to pay the applicable fees at the cash counter.

After the payment, application will be processed. It takes about two weeks to
print and laminate the license card. Applicants are requested to collect the
card two weeks after the date of application.
